Using Olaplex for healthy hair

Recently I completed a qualification in Olaplex. It’s a relatively new product and is the only product on the market proven to repair your hair from the inside out. It has taken the hair industry by storm. Before I qualified I carried out a lot of research into these products and to decide if I want to encourage others to invest in this. After a year of using Olaplex I was beyond impressed! My hair genuinely has never been healthier, and I have done more chemically to it than ever before.

What is Olaplex?

Olaplex is a patented active product that works on a molecular level to repair damaged and broken bonds. Damage to our hair can be caused by chemical, thermal, and mechanical damage.. I can use Olaplex to restore damaged and compromised hair, for any hair type. On top of this all Olaplex products are Colour-Safe, Vegan and made without sulfates, parabens or gluten.

When our hair gets damaged from a mechanical, chemical or environmental factor the disulphide bonds in our hairs are broken apart, causing your hair to become single sulphur hydrogen bonds. For healthy, strong hair the single sulphur hydrogen component will pair with a single oxygen molecule making a perfect match and preventing any damage.

To say I’m passionate about the Olaplex range is an understatement.

The other reaction that occurs is the damage we see in our hair. The single sulphur hydrogen molecule in our hair tries to pair with 3 oxygen molecules creating S03 (sulphate group) which is also known as Cystic Acid. This will gradually eat away at the protein in your hair until it becomes brittle and breaks.

If Olaplex is added to our hair, it works by ensuring during any damaging process such as, colouring, styling or washing, that the single sulphur bond pairs with the single oxygen molecule faster than the 3 oxygen molecules can. This encourages a perfect pair and quite literally repairing your hair from the inside out!

Olaplex Products

So what is it? It’s what I like to call liquid gold. I can give you an overview of the basics behind this miraculous set of products and their costs. Please don’t be overwhelmed by the prices, these are a huge investment and last a lot longer than your average hair products. But not all of them need to be purchased in one go, you can gradually buy them breaking down the costs over time.

No.1 is a Bond Multiplier. The magic making those bonds get to where they need to be, available to you in my salon and can be added to chemical service’s for £15-20. Alternatively, you can have a stand alone intense treatment to start your journey for healthy happy hair for £25-30.

No.2 is a Bond Perfector, or what we would call an intense treatment used every time No.1 is used. It’s applied after No.1’s journey, every time. Left on for a minimum of 10 minutes to seals those cuticles down and lock in all the hard work No.1 has achieved. A mini treatment is also available in between chemical services to encourage the perfect pairs to stay in tact for £8-10.

Take Home Products

No.3 is a Hair Perfector for you to take home and can be purchased from myself. Ideally you should apply to your hair around once a week. You apply after dampening your hair, and before shampooing from root to tip and comb it through. Leave on for a minimum of 10 minutes more. Then rinse, shampoo and condition for such soft beautiful hair.

No.4 is a Bond Maintenance Shampoo. Use every time you shampoo or after rinsing Olaplex No.3 Hair Perfector from hair. I have noticed that only a small amount of Olaplex No.4 is needed as it is highly concentrated. I have personally used one of these 250ml bottles and It lasted me a full 4 months and personally have very thick hair so a little really does go a long way.

No.5 is the Bond Maintenance Conditioner. Apply a small amount to mid lengths and ends, leave for 3-5 minutes, and rinse. Again, a little goes a long way. Eliminating frizz, flyaways and repairing damage in our hair. This is also a 250ml bottle and is long lasting the same as the shampoo.

No.6 is a Bond Smoother, and ideally used before, during or after drying your hair. You need a piece no bigger than a 5 pence piece. It helps to hydrate your hair, smooth it, eliminate frizz, hydrate and protect your hair. It does not leave any excess weight or residue on your hair. A 100ml bottle has lasted me over a year. I spend less now on products than ever before as I need so much less.

No.7 is a Bonding Oil, and is the first of its kind. This amazing bottle of oil is highly concentrated, ultra-lightweight and a reparative. It dramatically increases shine, softness and strength. Apply just a few drops to damp hair for an incredible shine. It also protects your hair the using thermal styling products for anything up to 230 degrees celcius.

Benefits of Olaplex

The benefits I have personally experienced using the Olaplex range not only include less breakage, but more manageability. A lot less frizz, (I have naturally curly hair) and I can wash my hair, blow-dry it and leave it now, without straightening and it looks good. This results in less heat damage to my hair as an overall result. I also suffer with mild psoriasis on my scalp due to the thickness of my hair, which has completely cleared up. My hair is longer, shinier, healthier than ever before.
